The Barbie movie

Well the much anticipated Barbie movie was released over the weekend , so obviously I had to go and see it. I dragged my husband along who wasn't keen , if I'm honest. Though once he'd seen it , he actually  enjoyed  it , I loved it !

It's not what you imagine your typical Barbie movie to be and its not what I expected  , but in a good way.  The film throughout is subliminally sending  you different messages.  Yes it's cheesy,  yes it OTT , yes it's pink but it's so much more than that !

The film has important messages about diversity,  inclusion , the patriarchy and most of all its about female empowerment. Ryan Gosling plays a particularly good Ken . It's a feel good , fun film , with some some great sets and costumes.  I would  definitely recommend it if you want a fun filled movie night with some laughs thrown in 💗

Solo spa day

This week I've been on annual leave as I start a new job next week.  So on Wednesday,  I treated myself to a solo spa day to take some time out to chill. I went to a new local spa in St Helens called The Ruskin Boutique Spa. It has recently been awarded 5 bubble status . It offers a swimming pool , hot tub , sauna , steam room , experience showers , gym , ice fountain  , The hideaway relaxation room and The wicket restaurant.

I opted for the refresh and reset spa day which included a 50 minute treatment , complimentary fruit tea , access to the hideaway , two hours use of the facilities , complimentary  robe , towel and slippers and afternoon  tea. I had a choice of treatments to choose from,  I opted for the boost and brighten  back massage  with full body scrub. I also opted for a treatment add on ,  which was a fifteen minute scalp massage  , this was an extra £10.

I was greated at reception by my therapist and shown round the spa , she was very friendly and professional. I was given my itinerary  for the day and shown to my locker where my towel , robe and slippers were waiting. My day then started with my treatment. I was shown to the treatment room which was decorated in a forest style , it was warm comfortable and smelt lovely  as there was an air diffuser on which added fragrance  and colour and added to the overall ambience. My treatment was lovely and really relaxing  and was delivered very professionally. The only thing I would say is I expected the order of the treatments to be done differently. I expected to have the body scrub , then massage and it to end with the scalp massage but I had the body massage , then scalp  it then finished with the body scrub last . This was not the most relaxing end to a treatment but the the treatment was done well so it is only a little picky thing.

Afterwards i was shown to the hideaway with a herbal tea to relax after my treatment. This was a lovely chilled area with dim lights , candles and spa music,  it was the perfect area to retreat to after your treatments. After some time there I then was able to make use of the pool and thermal areas in the spa.  The areas were clean and easily accessible.  The only thing I will say is that as there is a gym there are were quite a few members also using the facilities. It was by no means busy but I was the only spa guest that I could see. There wasn't many beds by the pool to sit and take some time out , so it was a while till one became free , again this is only a little  issue .

At 2pm I went for my afternoon tea in the restaurant . I was took to my table and asked if I had any allergies and also asked if I wanted a cold and a hot drink. I chose orange juice and a hazelnut latte. My drinks were brought over with very beautifully presented food in a birdcage , it looked very pretty. I had tuna , cheese and coleslaw and egg and cress sandwiches,  with a warm scone , jam and clotted cream and a big slice of biscoff cheesecake , it was really yummy !

Overall I had a really relaxing day , I was looked after , had lovely treatments and tasty food. The staff were attentive,  friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend it if you live in the St helens area as its affordable and luxurious but not too far to travel.
